A golf course is a living entity, and care for the course extends beyond the grounds crew. All golfers have a shared responsibility to repair the immediate wear and tear caused during a round. Maintaining turf quality is a core tradition and duty of every player on the course.
Key Golfer Responsibilities for Course Care
- Following Cart Rules: Adhere strictly to directional signs and keep golf carts away from sensitive areas, wet turf, steep slopes, and close perimeters around tees and greens.
- Respecting Staff: Avoid hitting shots in the direction of maintenance workers until they signal or acknowledge you, and give them room to work safely.
- Managing Debris: Dispose of trash properly in receptacles or carry it out with you, and pick up broken tees on the teeing ground.
Repairing Ball Marks
- Fix your own ball mark on the putting green, and ideally fix at least one extra one to keep the surface smooth for the groups behind you.
Managing Divots
- Replace displaced turf or fill divots in fairways and tee boxes using provided divot sand/mix, and avoid taking unnecessary practice swing divots.
Raking Bunkers
- Smooth out your footprints and any other disturbances inside sand traps with a rake before leaving. Leave rakes in the bunker in a position least impactful to play.
